Living with Disabilities —
MinuteMan Arc

Ann started receiving services from MinuteMan ARC in 1994 to help her achieve greater independence and self-sufficiency. She began by doing piece-work in the sheltered workshop, a vocational program that teaches clients various job skills. Within a short time, she was ready to learn new job skills and when MinuteMan ARC opened its arts & crafts gallery, Ann transferred jobs. Ann worked in the Marketplace for 3 years, where she learned to handle all sales, cash and credit, answer the store phone, and assist customers in their merchandise selection. When MMAHS closed the Marketplace, Ann looked for a working environment that would allow her to keep interacting with people in her community. She now works independently at two stores in Acton and Concord, where she bags groceries at one store, and serves as a clerk at the other.
One of Ann's favorite hobbies is painting. She is a member of an art club and attends weekly classes. Under the direction of a local artist who volunteers with MinuteMan ARC, the Art Club has designed a line of greeting cards that they are now marketing, and several of them feature Ann's pieces. Ann is an accomplished artist and sells her work locally, including Christmas cards.
Ann lives with four other women, and is an active, contributing member of her community. The ABUW is proud to support programs that enable area residents living with disabilities to live productive and independent lives.
