Mentoring Our Youth —
Big Brother

Little Brother Adolfo, and Big Brother Caesar, both of Acton, have been sharing time together for more than a year now, and have a special bond that may last a lifetime, thanks to the funding provided by the Acton-Boxborough United Way, a major supporter of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Association of South Middlesex (Maynard branch).
In the mid-1990s, the need for quality mentoring programs for youth became apparent to the many professionals in the area who work with children of all ages. As a result, the Big Brother, Big Sister Association of South Middlesex began seeking support to bring their program to the Acton area. The Acton-Boxborough United Way responded soon after and became a major source of funding to allow the program to begin recruiting qualified adult volunteers to be matched with children identified by school professionals, clergy, social service staff at the Acton Housing Authority and other sources in the community.
Caesar and Adolfo are just one example of a successful 'match' — not only do they enjoy a great friendship, but the support and affection Caesar provides his Little Brother will benefit Adolfo in so many ways during his growing years. Both guys love the outdoors and spend about five hours together each week enjoying sports activities, including biking, archery, boating and snowboarding, and hey attend BBBS-sponsored events such as a party at Roller Kingdom, and more.
While volunteers initially make a one-year commitment to their match, Caesar has no plans for ending his wonderful friendship with his Little Brother. Adolfo thinks that his Big Brother is nice, fun to be with, easy to talk to and he's glad that Caesar will continue to be such a special friend. Adolfo's mother, Gilceia, appreciates the support her son receives from BBBS and she knows her son is lucky to have such a special friend in Caesar.
