Dear Neighbor,
|
As we close our fiscal year, I'd like to thank the ABUW board
members and volunteers who have worked so tirelessly this year to
make a difference in their community. I am very proud of their
accomplishments. I also want to thank the many caring, compassionate
people who have continued to make donations to ABUW even when the
economy has caused us all to think twice about how we're spending
our hard earned dollars. Thanks to them, we were able to award
$110,000 to 24 local agencies providing much needed human services
to Acton and Boxborough residents. Our agencies continue to amaze me
with the creativity and resourcefulness they employ as they strive
to meet the increasing needs of our community. They all deserve a
big thank you! The FY 2011 Board of Directors and volunteers
are already off and running on their goals for the coming year.
While we're all hoping that the economy will improve and make our
jobs a little easier, the work to do is no less challenging. We have
some very exciting plans to engage our community to Live United in
the coming year. So stay tuned for upcoming newsletters and enjoy
your summer! Best regards, Jane
Boatright President, ABUW Board of

AB United Way
recently completed the grant allocation process for the 2010-2011

deliberation. Thanks to the donations received this past year, we
are able to award a total of $110,000 to human service agencies that

7th
Community Forum a Success
|
Thanks to Lauren
Rosenzweig, Frank
Powers, Police Chief Widmayer of Acton, Police
Chief Ryder of Boxborough, and Marilyn Peterson, a Domestic Violence
Services Network board member, the 7th ABUW Community Forum held on
May 6th was a big success.
The selectmen highlighted
their towns' upcoming human services agendas. Mrs. Peterson and the
two police chiefs highlighted the current challenges and initiatives
in addressing domestic violence issues in the two towns. This event
was attended by ABUW funded agencies, local clergy and other town
agencies, and is part of ABUW's Community Outreach

ABUW
Teams Competed in the 8th Annual Community Chest
Challenge
|
Congratulations to the
five ABUW teams who biked, ran and paddled in the 8th Annual
Community Chest Challenge on Sunday June 6th in Concord! Cloudy skies and a
steady rain did nothing to dampen the energy and enthusiasm of the
participants as they biked 11.7 miles, followed by a three-mile run
and a two-mile canoe paddle to the finish. The race was a
combination of team relay and mini-triathlon.
Twenty-nine teams from Concord-Carlisle,
Maynard and Acton-Boxborough participated in the event. The money
raised by the ABUW teams will benefit human services agencies that
serve Acton and Boxborough.
Thank you to Survey Crafter,
Enterprise Bank, Middlesex Savings Bank, Acton Medical Associates
and Steven Levitsky, Edward Jones for sponsoring the ABUW teams!
